Saul Leiter Street Workshop – April 22
Was, this the 5th or 4th one? I can’t remember but I still have a waiting list so I will plan one more later in the year. Manly because I have plenty more street days coming up.
Many thanks for those who attended the workshop this weekend.
No snow 😉 but good weather and subject matter.
A few shot below from me.
I shot this at Marks Tey while I was waiting for the train. Just liked the shadows.
A qyuick demo for Gary at Liverpool Street station as my train was early, showing exposing for highlights and using shadows and pools of light:
An example of using focus blur at Piccadilly Circus. Waiting for yellows to come into play:
I took seven minutes for myself waiting for the right person to come along on this next one. A blind corner at Piccadilly Circus, and shooting as soon as someone came into view that seemed right. I shot 60+ images and got three that were favourable. My fav being this one. The 60+ contacts are below the image. As I said on the day, sometimes you need to stay in one place and shoot a lot. Many will go in the bin!
Contacts:
A pool of light down an alley and some agreeable people. I liked the blue on the right hand side as it picked up with the blue signs plus it was complimentary to the orange towel *. The space pushes the viewer to the group even though the strip of blue is powerful. Reminds me a bit of an Edward Hopper painting
*or was he a lost monk in a robe! :
A few of us had a relaxing walk into Soho afterwards. This one had a good low light night feel of Leiter to it. Easy to walk by this one:
I spotted this backdrop and said lets try and get either someone in yellow or purple to come by, The Liberty bag worked but people came into the shot so a simple blend of two images in Photoshop removed the intrusive passerby!
The original two shots:
A final one for me on the way home, in the tube station and this lady appeared in front of me:
As always I saw much better shots on everyone else’s cameras through the day as I was shooting very little while I was supporting the group. Do post on Light Academy Shared Pix Private Group 😉
